Spring has arrived for me in California! This season is the time to try out bolder styles and take a break from your normal dress code. You aren’t sticking to your sweaty clothes like you might be during summer or trying to hide from the rain like in the winter. With the weather being so perfect, why not try something new?
If you aren’t sure where to start, I’ve rounded up my favorite bold spring trends that you can add to your wardrobe without feeling too far out of your comfort zone. I’ve also included some budget-friendly picks and designer sales!

#1: White Cat Eye Sunglasses
Cat Eye Sunglasses: $8.99 | Gingham Crop Top: $54.99 $24.75 | Leather Earrings: $25 | Chloé Drew Handbag Dupe: $39.90
RELATED POST – Designer Dupe: Chloé Drew – $1,650 vs. $39.90
Cat eye sunglasses have been back for a while, but white ones are all the rage. They pair well with a bold red lip and a light color palette. I predict they’ll transition well into summer too!
#2: Platform Shoes
Cat Eye Sunglasses: $8.99 | Gingham Crop Top: $54.99 $24.75 | Leather Earrings: $25 | Chloé Drew Handbag Dupe: $39.90 | Faux Suede Blush Flower Platform Heels: $44.99 $20.75 (Also in Red & Black)| High-Rise Skinny Jeans: $9.90 (Shop Similar: 1 2 3)
Espadrille sandals, blush tones, velvet fabrics and chunky heels: platform shoes are making a huge comeback this spring. Even sneakers like Puma (most platforms on sale between $35-$50 at Shopbop) and Converse are making their way back with an elevated platform sole.
You don’t need towering platforms to get in on the trend – opt for a low heel or even flatforms to get a vertical boost without sacrificing comfort.
#3: Bell Bottom Pants
Clear Aviator Sunglasses: $8.25 | Off-The-Shoulder Top: $9.90 (Shop Similar) | Bell-Bottom Jeans: $34.50 $29.31 | Platform Oxford: $45 | Gucci Dionysus Handbag Dupe: $119
Another retro trend that’s making a comeback are bell bottoms and flared pants. They’re the perfect solution to dress up a boring outfit and they come with a lot of perks: they’re comfy, they’re flattering, and they make your legs look long.
GoJane has a huge selection of flared pants and bell bottoms and they’re all on sale!
#4: Skinny Sunglasses
Vintage Skinny Cat Eye Sunglasses: $11.99 | Ruffled Cold-Shoulder Top: $18.80 $15.91 | Pleated Bell-Bottom Pants: $26.50 13.25 | Platform Oxford: $45 | Céline Belt Handbag Dupe: $69.99 $59.49
More vintage that’s making a comeback: 90’s skinny glasses are totally in right now. A current favorite of many bloggers on Instagram are Poppy Lissiman‘s Le Skinny sunglasses – they’re $100+ which isn’t too expensive, but who knows how long this trend will last? If you’re fickle on paying a pretty penny for trends that may not last through several seasons, you can get the Poppy Lissiman dupes I’m wearing for $12.
Don’t want to buy a new pair? Ask your mom – I’m sure she’s got some vintage sunnies!
#5: One-Shoulder Tops
Cat Eye Sunglasses: $9.99 | Statement Earrings: Shop Similar on Sale at Shopbop | One-Shoulder Swimsuit: $49.99 $22.50 | Slim Stretchy Ankle Pant: $31.99 | Geometric Metal Clutch: $22.99 | Pointed Toe High Heel Pump: $59.95 $19.88
One-shoulder tops have been subtly sliding into casual wear the past season. The particular style used to be found only in elegant pieces or evening wear, but I’m noticing this style is becoming more prominent on everyday materials like jersey and cotton. It’s a functional yet fashionable solution for those who don’t want to repeatedly hike up their strapless tops all day.
My one-shoulder top is actually an Ami Club Wear swimsuit, but I’ve noticed a few Instagrammers sporting the same one like a bodysuit underneath skirts and pants. It’s really versatile and you can dress it up or down!
Shopbop also has a good selection of one-shoulder tops on sale between $16 – $60. Consider picking up a quality piece for a fraction of the designer retail price!
#6: Ruffle Details
Silver Mirrored Sunglasses: $69 $59 | Cabby Hat (Shop Similar 1 2 3) | Ruffled Sleeve Top: $36.50 $31.01 | Plaid Cigar Pants: $30.50 $15.25
Adding ruffles are a great way to spice up simple shoulder-baring styles or boring silhouettes. Add them to skirts to enhance your curves, or get a top with a subtle ruffle trim to add more texture – there’s no item that ruffles can’t add an extra bit of “oomph” to! I’m in love with this ruffled sleeve top from GoJane – it’s on sale for $31.01!
