With spring right around the corner, I’ve started to pack away all my coats and heavier layers into boxes and replace them with my spring and summer clothes (am I the only Californian who has to swap out their closet twice a year?). I love indulging in trendy pieces every so often, but I’m also pretty practical and love investing in pieces that don’t go out of style.
So what are “practical” pieces for spring? Here are my tried-and-true styles that have yet to go out of trend throughout the years!

Off-the-shoulder tops are perfect for warmer spring days. Get some ruffled ones to add texture to neutral colors or grab a shirred top in a bold color like yellow or blue. While they’re more seasonally appropriate than completely strapless tops for summer, these can easily be worn well into summer.
Play up simple blouses with huge statement earrings. Beaded drop earrings, tassel earrings or chunky statement hoops can definitely complete simpler outfits, which makes them perfect to spice up work outfits or minimalist dress codes.
If you want cheap earrings, make sure to check out GoJane for tons of earrings under $15. For more longevity, check out Stella & Dot or Shopbop’s sale section for tons of designers like Kenneth Jay Lane, Deepa Gurnani, Vanessa Mooney and more under $50.
If you’re not big on pastels and brighter girls, you can still integrate a girly springtime feel with lacey numbers. Black kimonos look great with a simple tank and pants, and you can always layer them with a biker jacket or a trench during the evening for more edginess and depth.
Distressed Blue Jeans
Grab a pair of blue jeans with the perfect distressing and wash and you’re good to go! They can match anything from crop tops to a simple T-shirt, which makes it the ultimate versatile spring staple for girls like me who teeter back and forth between playful, girly outfits and casual outfits.
Statement High Heel Sandals
Another great transitional piece that can bring you from spring to summer is a good statement high heel sandal. From fringed toe straps to ballerina-style ankle straps, there are so many kinds of statement sandals that can pair perfectly with a pair of boyfriend jeans to skinny fitted slacks.
